Despite the fact that I try and avoid posting a lot of WW2 stuff (purely because of the number of much more knowledgeable WW2 bloggers on this site), I’ve stumbled across a few hundred photos from soldiers personal albums, and a few colourised photos as well, so expect a lot more Wehrmacht over the next few days.
Within hours of the Allies’ liberation of Rome, local Fascist leaders were rounded up and brought in for trial by armed members of the Italian resistance. At the same time, the infamous Regina Coeli prison was stormed as well, and while the prison guards stood aside and watched, all of Mussolini’s political prisoners were released.
To those involved, the events became known as the day of reckoning.
